Engineered Redwood v Joinery Redwood?

Joinery redwood used to be an excellent product for making wooden gates providing a smooth paintable or stainable finish and although we have used it for many years our new engineered timber is proving to be a far more superior product, joinery grade is still available on our website
Engineered timber is made from several flawless cuts of european redwood. These cuts are then glued, compressed and laminated together in a pattern of alternating wood grains. This process eliminates common defects found in traditional timber, offering superior stability and a flawless appearance.
Joinery redwood is an imperfect timber with knots, additionally timber naturally expands and contracts, twisting in the direction of the grain, as joinery redwood timber has one consistent grain throughout the entire cut, the entire length can twist in the same direction which can lead to warping and bowing. joinery redwood is therefore more prone to breakages, wear & tear and paint cracking. Engineered timber is 76.5% more stable than joinery redwood
